Pippy, one of our cats, we think must have eaten some ‘sharp grass yesterday and has cut or grazed the inside of his throat. This has made him retch when he has tried to eat, so he hasn’t bothered. We took him down to the vets this morning and he confirmed that nothing was actually stuck in his throat. He, the vet, has given Pip an antibiotic jab and some tablets to heal him over the next few days. This afternoon he has eaten some soft food so we are hoping that he is over the worst of it. The grasses here, compared to the UK are very tough, they have to be, so it will be a problem for the cats if they don’t chew them properly in the future. Pip is looking OK but the vet recommends that we keep him in for a few days. Saffi is bemused that he is also being kept in. It really would be difficult to control one in and one out and once they accept being in they are quite content, as long as we are around. I have to smile at Saffi in a morning. At about half past seven, when the sun is just coming up, he will jump from the floor straight onto the bed, and usually us, and then run up over the pillows to glower directly into our faces. He says it’s time we were all up and letting him out for a stroll. If we ignore him he will settled for ten minutes and then repeat the whole process again. One can’t ignore a cat landing on you whilst you are sleeping. It frightens the be-Jesus out of you if you’re fully asleep. I thought that reveille in the army was bad enough but there was not as much physical abuse with it as Saffi landing on you.
The builders have been finishing off the roof areas today and have at last taken down the electric hoist, it seems to have been above the front porch for ever. Of course they have yet another day off again tomorrow. We had loads more blocks delivered yesterday and these will form the outer edge of the surrounding patio. It will run all around the house at one metre wide and then at the back outside the lounge it will be about two metres wide.
