Already half way through March, it’s amazing where the time is going. We have been out spending loads of dosh again this morning. We have bought a bed and mattress that we both agree seems the best one in the shop for comfort but not for price. We looked at beds yesterday at another shop in Albox. The lady who runs that shop lived for forty years in Barnoldswick (Barlic) before coming here, she was on the sales team at Silent Night. She lived in Skipton and knows the Ilkley, Burley and Otley areas very well. What a small world, eventually we will meet someone here from Pool or East Keswick.
Because of the balustrades, on the solarium, we are not able to see what the builders are doing. From the bobbing up and down of their heads, I would think that they are putting more tiles down and perhaps grouting the ones that went down yesterday. So far since they started work here at the end of December, they have only had one day where the weather was too bad for them to turn out and work at all and one day that I took them home at lunch time because the wind got up, so for nearly three months they have worked a six (and sometimes seven) day week from eight in the morning until between six and seven in the evening. They have half an hour for breakfast and half an hour for lunch/siesta. I just hope that they are getting at least a half decent wage each week. It is said that out here builders earn more money than solicitors and are held in far higher esteem by the population.
We talked with Steve, Debs, Ivan and Ollie last night. They are all looking forward to going skiing to Chemonix at the end of next week. Ivan has recovered well from his operation although he occasionally over does it and has to sit down for a while. Ollie is enjoying French speaking classes in their village, although he was not keen to go in the first place. Nick is well and still working in London for the near future. He is talking about going to Canada next winter to help run ‘husky sledging holidays’ with one of his old mates.
BTW you may have sussed out that the internet connection is b....ing about again, it must be week-end.
