Wednesday 8-11-2006

We had a great deal of heavy rain overnight and we were seriously concerned that if it continued we might have problems with the caravan. What is happening is that the caravan is about ten feet from the edge of the newly dug banking on the site. The heavy rain is forming into small streams, running under the caravan in several places and as the water gets to the soft newly moved banking it is cascading down and taking some of the banking with it. This has dug alarmingly large furrows back towards the caravan in several places.
After talking to Bob and Pam this morning , and it stopping raining for a few hours, we have spent the day digging trenches all over the site with my mattock, in an attempt to divert the water away from the caravan and the affected banking . We have also harnessed (or we think we have, the drainage water from the roof of the caravan. We have put drain pipes down from the guttering and then diverted the water to another drain away place. We will only know if any of this works at all if we get more heavy rain. I would rather we didn’t so that I don’t find out.
We are told that this is almost freak weather here in Taberno and that we have had nearly a years supply of grey days and rain. At least that is re-assuring. It’s just started again but we are going out dancing so who knows where we might be living after we come home.
It is a bit of a slap in the face to be watching a ‘Place in the Sun’ ha ha!
We will try to make up tomorrow for not having any pictures today.
