We have both had a hard working day today, ‘onest we ‘ave. We went to Taberno for morning coffee etc, as usual. Then we filled up with petrol, 33 litres for the genny and the rest of €50 for the car. Then we filled 124 litres of water up from the mountain spring for drinking and washing etc. When we got back Elayne set to hand washing sheets and towels whilst I built further sea defences in case of more heavy rain. I dragged up from the bottom of the banking some of the old trunk roof beams from the remains of the ruin. I put these along the up-hill side of the caravan, in a row, nose to tail the full length of the van. I then brought loads of boulders over from the other side of the site with the wheel barrow and laid these in front of the beams. Lastly I dragged down from the hebe, ten barrow loads of gravel and tipped this on to the boulders. We can’t stop the water coming down and under the van but what I hope is that if it rains as hard as it did last week ,then the excess flowing water off the upper side of the site will be diverted past the end of the van and on down the slope. This will prevent further erosion of the land that the caravan is stood on (I hope). It can only improve matters together with the ditches and trenches that I have dug over the past few days. We’ll see.
So we’re both knackered and we are going out dancing the blooming tango. How’s that for masochism? (Masochism Tango, anyone remember it? by Tom Lear)
