Elayne and I have both agreed that today was a really super day.
After a cold start (you try 12 degrees in your bedroom;-) and a brief visit to Taberno this morning we have poodled about all day, in glorious sunshine wearing just jeans and short sleeve shirt type things, doing things that we want to do. If we had been paid to do this it would be called work, to us it was simple enjoyable pleasure in the warm climate.
Our friends Isobel and Eric implored us to tie the caravan down before winter so that it doesn’t lift off in any high winds. Well I have finally got round to it today. We bought six one metre rods, each 12mm thick, made from high tensile steel and threaded. We also bought two nuts and two washers for each rod and then six smallish wagon ties (those with the ratchet tighteners, €2.20 each). After threading a nut, two washers and a further nut onto each rod I bashed the rods into the ground, angled like tent pegs, with a club hammer. I then attached the ties to the caravan girder structure underneath and to the rods just above the ground level. I put only a little pressure on each tie so that it prevents any lifting action in the wind. I have not used my club hammer in anger over here, till now, and was surprised to only hit the thumb knuckle on my left hand once. It hurts even more than I last remembered it hurting. There you go Isobel and Eric, thank you for your tip and concern. I could be employed to build a circus tent now.
After lunch Elayne did some more washing and girly things whilst I rendered down another pile of almond prunings. I have now got a proper almond fork, see pictures, so that will help me to bring the trimmings down from the trees to where I chop it all up.
We are out again, dancing tonight, what a life?
We hope that you had a nice day too.
