We have been up here, on site, for exactly two months today. We are enjoying it all but we still have no news about the ‘go ahead’ to build our house. We are trying to cope with the good, and bad bits of our situation, but just sometimes it gets a little wearing.
When the ruin was demolished, the only bit that was left intact at the end was the old and very woodworm eaten, hand made, front door. It was left to one side for us to use and eventually incorporate into something at a later stage, after the house is finished. We have seen some really nice arch ways that have old doors in them so we wanted to keep this relic. We also wanted the roof beams/logs and the old tiles from the ruin but this instruction obviously was too complicated for anyone to understand so it was all bulldozered/JCB’d into the flattened plot.
Anyway, today I was constructing further ‘sea defences’ (it looks quite impressive, even if I do say so myself) and looked at this sad door laid on the ground with the outside part of the door on the underneath side. I said to myself ‘no wonder things are taking so long, the door is insulted at having been laid the wrong way up. The outside should be on the up side‘. So I actually turned the whole thing over so that the outside is now uppermost. Now that is a really sad superstition isn’t it, ……………..or is it???? We’ll see.
We have been told that weather forecast says that we will have rain from Saturday until Tuesday next week, that’ll test my sea defences out.

Dear Elayne & Paul.

Your Blog is really fascinating and life in Taberno seems to push you both into being very enterprising. I feel a complete dope compared to you two coping with all sorts trying situations. Life in Taberno seems to have lots of compensations, The weather, the dancing, the healthy life style - you both look in remarkably good fettle!! Even the cats seem to enjoy life there!

I was curious about all the water you collect from the village and yet you seem to be currently awash with the stuff. Can you collect it from your roof for, say, washing purposes?

The weather here is getting more and more wet, windy and generally miserable but - still manage a few games of tennis through the week. I see you still have your tennis rackets. Hang on to them, we might still have Tranmere v Taberno contest.

I have had another look at the photograph of the insulators and decided it had been mounted upside down. This observation is based on the appearance of the rust smears.

Love from us both.

Joan & Mike

Dear Paul & Elayne.

I have just typed a whole pile of comments and and when I tried to 'publish' them they just
disappeared. Here we go again!

Your Blog is absolutely fascinating. Life in Taberno seems to push you both into being so enterprising! I feel a complete dope in comparison! You both look remarkably healthy and with all the work and dancing etc. you must be as fit as a butcher's dog - as Ernie Grimshaw used to say!

I am glad to see that you still have your tennis rackets. Someday we will arrange a match between Tranmere and Taberno!

I was curious about all the water you need to bring up from the village. Perhaps in time you will be able to collect it from the roof - you certainly seem to get a lot of the stuff falling at this time of the year.

The weather here is gradually getting, wetter, windier, colder and generally more miserable.

The old door you have reminded me of the most enchanting hotel I ever stayed in. It was in Guanajuato, a very old and historic town in the middle of Mexico. The bedroom I stayed in had stone floors and door was like the one you have. It did not really fit the doorway because you could either climb over the top or limbo under door if you were so inclined! Yet - it was a magic place. Hang on to your door, it might be suitable for the guest bedroom!

By the way, I think the insulator you found was originally mounted up side down - oberservation based on the rust smears.

Love from us both.

Mike and Joan.

P.S. Lets hope the above dosn't disappear again. Here goes!
