Post “puter crash and re-install Windows, formatting ‘C’ Drive. At first trauma and anguish about what has been lost, some items after 20-12-2006 were not backed up, but gradual dawning that we have had a forcible ‘C’ drive spring clean which has got rid of loads of programs that we don’t actually use but are nice to have. Also there were a few gremlins in the system that I worked around for so long that it became the norm (Brian Richerby must be laughing his socks off if he is reading this). I had so many ‘blue screens’ yesterday that in the end I couldn’t get anything other than a blank screen with a curser winking in the top left hand corner. Urgent calls to the family technical department in Essex and we decided that the system was too corrupt to repair itself so we decided that a complete re-install was the only answer.
Hey, did you see our almond tree in flower? Isn’t that amazing for the 7th January? Last night however, we had another quite windy night with the van walls flexing and banging a bit. We both laid awake for some time wondering if it was going to get any worse. It didn’t and suddenly it was sunrise and all is now back to normal i.e.,. Sunny, warm and very spring like.
We have had people working on site since just after nine this morning. They are putting the steels into the trenches and locking them all together. Elayne and I walked up whilst they were having their siesta and the steel re-enforcement frames are very big and heavy, they won’t rock and roll in the wind like the caravan. See pictures.

Blimey are you sure it isnt a small village you are building?! It looks even bigger now than when they dug the trenches!
Glad to hear you havent lost as much as you thought....no chance any of the lost stuff is still on the camera I suppose? At least you have the blog for pics of build....not that much has happened luckily.
Now I dont know much about this stuff as you know but could you not store copies of pics on different drives or wouldnt that make any difference? Or send us monthly discs for backup ?
Dx
I read all your blog. Things look great. Site looks huuugee. Hope you get this as not too good at blog business... Jane xx
Debs. Good thinking batman. I have a new save routine that only saves onto another drive. Steve will laugh but I had lapsed into saving onto 'C' drive. I have only in the end lost pictures from 20-12-2006 so slap wrist and don't do it again. I could not have got myself out of the mess without Steve, so send the bill when it's ready :-))))
Jane. The comments are arriving OK now . You can look at two blog sites now. You can also give the Saliente blog address to any one that you want to see the pics (highlight the address, copy and past it into emails etc.
Love to you all, it's good to know that we are being read.
I'm starting to think the good old days of using a modem that tied up your telephone line and stopped people from ringing you weren't so bad after all 8^)
xxx Steve
Love to Mum!
