Good Friday, indeed. There has clearly been a mix up by the weather men. We have got the UK Easter weather here and the UK has got our Southern Spain Mediterranean. Is it anything to do with Bob Fish do you think. Have they brought him back from retirement and he’s done a 1987 on us again. We think that we should perhaps start planning our summer holidays in the sun by coming to Essex in October before the winter of snow, hail and tempest begins here again. We can travel light with just ‘t’ shirts and shorts and then buy buckets and spades for when we go on the beach at Frinton.
From my mood you can probably detect that we have had another wet and cold day here. We are pleased that we do not have any wind but it’s very wet outside under foot. We walked up to the house, just for something to do, and found that where the builders have not yet finished and sealed the outside roof, the rain has come through and into the hall, kitchen and bedroom. I’m sure that it will not do any damage and that after they completed the full roof all will be fine. We will however keep an eye on it all to make sure it is sealed properly when they return on Monday.
Looking on the bright side of life (that sounds like a good title for a song) the rain will have given all the plants a good drink of water before the dryness of summer kicks in.
We were going to make the effort to go down to see the Easter procession at HO tonight but only if the rain stops completely well before our departure time. The procession winds it’s way through the town streets and can take upto three hours to pass. There will be bands and dancers as well as the amazing religious shrines that are carried through the streets. It will be a shame for those involved if the weather doesn’t take up. We will then probably watch some of it on Spanish TV and look forward to next Easter.
I am just reading Norman Wisdoms autobiography. I have admired him since I was young and saw him in hilarious films with Gerry Desmond and June Laverick. His early years story is amazing. His mother left home when he was eleven or so and then his father used to leave Norman and his brother for weeks on end whilst he went off working. They had to scrounge and steal food in the east end of London. He even spent a whole month living rough and sleeping by a statue in the centre of London before joining the forces where he eventually became a British Forces Boxing Champion whilst stationed in India. Talk about triumphing over adversity, what a story. After he became famous he topped the bill at The Palladium and I once saw him and Bruce Forsyth doing a two man show instead of a usual Sunday Night at the London Palladium. There was an equity strike on and instead of cancelling the show the two of them spent the whole hour on stage ad libbing from start to finish. It was one of the best shows ever. If you like comedians and get a chance to read the book I can recommend it.
We have at last managed to get a couple of pictures of the lesser spotted Cuckoo’s that we are seeing around just now. We only just get time to grab the camera before they fly off again. These pictures are the best so far. The picture of the meal shows how were having to 'rough it' out in the wilds of the Spanish country side.
